King of Libya. He thought that his brother Aegyptus would usurp his throne and thus fled with his fifty daughters to Argos where he became king. Soon thereafter Aegyptus' fifty sons demanded that Danaus' daughters would marry them and Danaus had to arrange a group wedding. However, he ordered his daughters to slay the grooms on the marriage night. The only one of the grooms that managed to escape was Lynceus helped by the Danaid Hypermestra.
